Strengthening Professionalism and Honoring Service: UIN Sunan Kalijaga Holds Staff Development, Syawalan, and Faculty Retirement Ceremony

Yogyakarta, March 31, 2026 — UIN Sunan Kalijaga, through its Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK), organized a Staff Development Program, Syawalan Gathering, and Faculty Retirement Ceremony on Tuesday (March 31) on campus. The event was attended by university leaders, faculty executives, lecturers, and administrative staff as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, reinforce institutional values, and honor long-standing academic service.

The program aimed not only to provide professional development for all staff and to appreciate retiring lecturers, but also to serve as a Syawalan gathering—an important post-Eid tradition that fosters mutual forgiveness, strengthens collegial relationships, and reinforces a sense of unity within the academic community. The event was conducted solemnly, featuring speeches, reflections on years of service, and reaffirmation of dedication values in higher education.

In his remarks, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dr. Noorhaidi, M.Phil., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong sense of service and integrity as members of the academic community.

“Service in education is not merely about fulfilling a profession, but a meaningful contribution to the advancement of civilization. I deeply appreciate the dedication of our lecturers who have served with great commitment, and I hope these values will continue to be passed on to future generations,” he stated.

He further noted that staff development serves as a strategic instrument in ensuring institutional quality amid the dynamic landscape of global higher education. In addition, he highlighted that Syawalan carries significant moral and social meaning, as it provides a space to renew sincerity, strengthen solidarity, and build a harmonious academic environment.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Prof. Dr. Sigit Purnama, M.Pd., underlined that the program reflects a commitment to fostering a sustainable academic culture.

“Staff development is not merely an administrative agenda, but a collective space for reflection to strengthen work ethic, loyalty, and professionalism. At the same time, the retirement ceremony represents a form of respect for the long-standing dedication that has significantly contributed to the growth of the faculty,” he explained.

He added that the Syawalan gathering further enriches the event by nurturing values of togetherness, humility, and mutual respect among members of the academic community.

In a broader context, the event aligns with the institution’s efforts to strengthen sustainable human resource governance. Staff development initiatives are directed toward enhancing performance, work ethic, and adaptability in response to the evolving dynamics of higher education.

At the same time, the retirement ceremony serves as an important occasion to recognize the dedication and contributions made throughout years of service. The retiring lecturers are acknowledged for their significant role in shaping graduate quality and advancing academic development within FITK.

The presence of the academic community in offering direct appreciation reflects a strong institutional culture that upholds solidarity, respect, and collective values. The inclusion of Syawalan further reinforces emotional bonds and institutional cohesion, which are essential for sustaining a productive and harmonious academic environment.

Through this integrated program, FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga aims to strengthen internal solidarity, enhance staff performance, and ensure the continuity of meaningful academic contributions in the future.
