Strengthening Global Recognition: FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Initiates Academic Collaboration in Malaysia

? Malaysia | May 18, 2026

The Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education (FITK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta successfully convened the International Joint Seminar II at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia, on Monday, May 18, 2026. Centered around the theme "Technology, Good Governance, and The Future of Education," this international forum brought together lecturers, researchers, and students in a strategic effort to accelerate higher education internationalization and address the complex challenges of digital transformation in education.

Hosted at the Faculty of Human Development, UPSI, the event was propelled by a robust cross-university alliance, featuring prominent institutions such as UNNES, Unila, Uncen, UNS, and UNY. In this prestigious academic forum, Dr. Winarti, M.Pd.Si., from UIN Sunan Kalijaga, delivered a compelling presentation as one of the keynote speakers. The seminar also featured insights from renowned international academicians, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hafizul Fahri from UPSI Malaysia and Dr. Arif Hidayat, Ph.D.Ed. from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

"This initiative reflects our earnest institutional commitment to reinforcing the faculty's distinct virtues toward global recognition. It provides an excellent platform for both faculty members and students to widely disseminate their flagship research outputs on an international scale."

— Prof. Dr. Sigit Purnama, Dean of FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga

During the panel discussion, Dr. Winarti further emphasized that the evolution of future education must not rely solely on technological innovations. Instead, it is equally paramount to fortify character development, professional ethics, and adaptive governance models that align with the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

Beyond the main seminar, the comprehensive agenda also featured research presentations and field observations of educational practices in Malaysia. Notably, a study presented by the delegation utilizing the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology—titled "Cognitive Consequences of Short-Form Video Exposure in Children"—received high praise and positive acclaim from the participants and UPSI faculty members, owing to its profound relevance to contemporary digital media impacts on early childhood development.

Strategic Outlook:

As an implementation of the Tri Dharma (the Three Pillars of Higher Education), this collaborative milestone is expected to elevate academic capacities and instill global confidence among students. Looking ahead, this cross-institutional partnership is targeted to foster long-term impact through robust joint research programs, publications in reputable international journals, lecturer and student exchange initiatives, and the co-development of a global-standard curriculum.
