FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Strengthens Global Community Engagement through Tarbiyah International Community Service Program in Thailand

The Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its commitment to developing global-based community engagement through the Tarbiyah International Student Mobility and International Community Service program held at Susnasuksa School, Pattani, Thailand. This program represents FITK’s strategic effort to expand international collaboration while making meaningful contributions in the fields of education and cross-border community empowerment.

The international program involved lecturers and students from various study programs within FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in a series of academic, social, and community engagement activities focused on strengthening multicultural education, literacy, and character development among students. Through this initiative, participants not only gained international academic experience but also directly engaged in educational and community empowerment activities within schools and local communities in Pattani, Thailand.

Various community service activities were carried out during the program, including international classroom teaching practices, literacy and language assistance, the introduction of Indonesian culture, and socio-educational activities with students and local communities. These cross-cultural interactions became valuable learning experiences for students in understanding social and cultural diversity while enhancing their communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills in a global environment.

The International Community Service program also serves as a concrete implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in an international context, particularly in the aspect of community service based on collaboration and humanitarian values. The presence of FITK lecturers and students in Thailand is expected to contribute positively to strengthening community education while fostering friendship and international cooperation through educational and humanistic approaches.

In addition to strengthening international community engagement experiences, this program also supports FITK’s efforts to prepare future educators who are competitive, adaptive, and globally minded. Cross-border learning and service experiences serve as strategic opportunities to enhance students’ social awareness, humanitarian sensitivity, and ability to respond to the increasingly complex and multidimensional challenges of 21st-century education.

FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s participation in this program aligns with the faculty’s vision of becoming a globally competitive faculty based on the integration-interconnection paradigm. Through strengthening international mobility and global community engagement programs, FITK continues to encourage the development of an inclusive, collaborative, and socially impactful academic ecosystem at both national and international levels.

In the future, the Tarbiyah International Community Service program is expected to continue growing through sustainable international partnerships in the form of student and lecturer exchanges, joint research, collaborative teaching, and the development of international community service programs based on global community needs. Through these initiatives, FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga not only expands its international recognition but also reinforces its role as an educational institution actively contributing to global society through education and community engagement.
