Doctoral Degree (S3) Admission Pathways
? Regular Track
A standard periodic admission track open to the general public based on the university's academic waves. The selection process is conducted via an extensive Academic Interview, which includes a comprehensive presentation of the applicant's dissertation research proposal and foreign language proficiency evaluations (English and Arabic).
? Institutional Partnership Track
A specialized admission pathway organized based on a formal Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and partner institutions/agencies. The registration timelines, prerequisites, eligibility, and assessment rubrics are customized in accordance with the respective institutional contract specifications.
Admissions Prerequisites
? Core Academic Credentials
- A Master's degree (S2) or its academic equivalent with a minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or an equivalent outstanding academic distinction rank.
- An official scanned color copy of the Master's Diploma (or formal Graduation Certificate) and full Academic Transcripts for domestic graduates.
- Graduates holding international diplomas must enclose a legalized copy of the formal diploma equivalency decree officially issued by the Ministry.
? Portfolio Dossier & Supporting Documents
- Letters of Recommendation: Two formal letters of recommendation issued by professors, senior scholars, or doctoral supervisors from the applicant's master's studies (or the Master's Thesis advisor). The standardized recommendation template is accessible via the registration portal.
- Statement of Purpose: A formal written essay detailing the applicant's academic goals, research motivations, and target scholarship contributions.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): A comprehensive curriculum vitae encompassing personal credentials, complete academic history, recorded publications, scientific presentations, and leadership experiences or notable non-academic distinctions.
- Dissertation Research Proposal: A rigorous, structured draft of the dissertation research proposal with a maximum length of 25 pages.
- Scientific Publications: A minimum of two proofs of published academic or scientific works (such as journal articles, book chapters, or academic papers).
? Language Competency Benchmarks
Applicants must satisfy at least one of the minimum foreign language proficiency standards detailed below:
- English Language Proficiency: A minimum TOEFL score of 525 or an IELTS band score of 6.
- Arabic Language Proficiency: A minimum TOAFL score of 500.

Conditional Language Exemption Note: Applicants who have not yet satisfied the aforementioned language thresholds are required to sign and submit a formal, legally stamped Statement of Commitment (materai 10,000) pledging to achieve the target language benchmark score prior to the execution of their official dissertation proposal defense examination.
? Admissions Procedure
- Settle the required institutional independent doctoral admission testing fees via designated banking partners.
- Accurately complete all digital data profiles and upload all mandatory portfolio verifications onto the centralized online registration portal.
- Generate and print the official Examination Card along with copies of the uploaded dossier, and attend the scheduled panels for the selection interviews.
