The event took place in the FITK Journal Center Room on the second floor of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training building and was conducted in a hybrid format.
The program was attended by journal managers within FITK, lecturers, and students. FITK Journal Clinic Series 2026 #1 marks the first of eight series scheduled throughout 2026. This workshop forms part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to strengthen academic capacity, particularly in scientific article writing, research methodology enhancement, and improving journal governance toward national and international standards.
Participants of FITK Journal Clinic Series 2026 #1 attended sessions on academic writing and research methodology in a hybrid format at the FITK Journal Center Room on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
The Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Sigit Purnama, emphasized that the program plays a strategic role in improving the quality of research and scientific publications within FITK.
“I highly appreciate and support the FITK Journal Clinic Series Workshop organized by the FITK Journal Center. This is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of research and publications. In line with the faculty leadership’s vision of strengthening excellence toward global recognition, I hope that journals within FITK will achieve national accreditation and be indexed in Scopus and Web of Science,” he stated.
According to Prof. Sigit, strengthening the capacity of journal managers is essential because journal quality is closely related to the quality of submitted manuscripts, editorial standards, and the ability of journal managers to keep up with developments in scientific publishing. Therefore, journal managers need to continuously improve both their academic and technical competencies to ensure that journals within FITK continue to grow and develop.
“Journal managers also need to continuously enhance and update their knowledge and skills in academic writing and research methodology. These competencies are crucial to ensure that the articles processed and published are of high quality,” he added.
The event also featured Imam Machali, Director of the Center for Research and Publication FITK, as the keynote speaker. The involvement of the FITK Journal Center in this event reflects the faculty’s commitment to building a more productive, systematic, and quality-oriented publication ecosystem.
The main speaker of the event was Tauchid Komara Yuda, Editor-in-Chief of the Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (JSP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, which is indexed by Scopus. He is also widely recognized as the recipient of an Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) award as the youngest lecturer to publish in internationally reputable Scopus-indexed journals, as well as an author in international journals with impact factors above 8.
During the session, Dr. Tauchid Komara Yuda shared insights into the management of internationally reputable journals, particularly best practices in managing Scopus-indexed journals at Universitas Gadjah Mada. This sharing session provided valuable perspectives for journal managers in understanding journal governance standards, editorial quality control, manuscript selection, communication with authors and reviewers, as well as strategies for enhancing journal reputation to compete at national and international levels.
In addition to journal management, the speaker highlighted the importance of research methodology as the fundamental basis of reputable scientific writing. Articles with greater potential for acceptance in international journals are not determined solely by relevant and timely topics, but also by the appropriateness of research approaches, clarity of methodological design, strength of data, depth of analysis, and the author’s ability to position the study within global academic discussions.
Participants also received explanations regarding various methodological approaches commonly employed in international journal articles, including qualitative, quantitative, and literature review traditions. This session helped participants understand that research methodology should not merely be written as a technical procedure, but should clearly demonstrate the relationship between the research problem, research questions, approach, data sources, analytical techniques, and the article’s academic contribution.
The speaker also highlighted several common weaknesses still frequently found in articles written by Indonesian authors. Among these were insufficiently focused problem statements, descriptive literature reviews, methodological inconsistencies with research objectives, limited analytical depth, and novelty claims unsupported by strong academic arguments and evidence.
For journal managers, the session offered important perspectives in critically assessing manuscript quality, particularly regarding novelty, methodology, and scientific contribution. Meanwhile, for lecturers and students, the event provided an opportunity to better understand scientific writing standards aligned with the expectations of internationally reputable journals.
The discussion session remained highly interactive throughout the event. Participants raised various questions related to journal management, strategies for improving manuscript quality, international journal article standards, appropriate research methodologies, and common factors that often hinder article acceptance in reputable journals.
Through FITK Journal Clinic Series 2026 #1, the FITK Journal Center hopes that journal managers, lecturers, and students will continue to strengthen their capacity in writing, reviewing, and developing scientific publications. As the opening event of the eight-part Journal Clinic Series 2026, this program is also expected to become a sustainable step toward improving the quality of journals within FITK, enabling them to achieve stronger national accreditation and expand opportunities for internationally reputable indexation.
