FITK Students Become Part of the Pioneer of World Peace in Pakistan

“Peace can only be realized if youth take part in making it happen”, Tawakkol Karman, winner of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize. It was this inspiration that made Mike Yunita, a student of PAI FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, feel very honored to be one of the two Indonesian delegates at the International Youthopia activity. Summit 2019 which was held on 28 August – 1 September 2019 at Iqra University, Karachi-Pakistan. This International Conference focuses on the role of youth as agents of peace in the context of realizing world peace through equal human rights.

This international conference was attended by approximately 52 delegates from various countries such as Pakistan, Indonesia, China, Kenya, England, Japan, and Spain. The backgrounds of the delegates who participated in this conference were also very diverse, ranging from academics, professionals to international NGO activists. So it becomes a great opportunity for Mike to establish relationships and cooperation with the international community.

There were several discussions and materials at the International Conference, ranging from discussions about the agenda of the United Nations (UN) member states in realizing the Sustainable Development mission of countries in the world through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program, to the role of formal and informal educational institutions. , and non-formal in instilling the values of peace from an early age.

In the Spotlight session, Mike had the opportunity to represent the people who are victims of intolerance in Indonesia to speak and voice their rights to the global community as well as to invite young people to work together in the success of the world peace agenda. Then at the Cultural Night session, Mike and Eka Dharmayudha, another participant from the Bandung Law School, were given the opportunity to represent Indonesia by introducing the natural beauty and richness of Indonesian culture with the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism's tagline "Wonderful Indonesia" in front of delegates from various countries. "Our presentation received an extraordinary response, many from delegates from various countries who are increasingly curious and intend to visit Indonesia in the near future", said Mike in expressing his happiness.

The message that can be taken from this activity is that the role of youth is very much needed in realizing the world peace agenda, and peace is not only about the absence of war but also about mutual respect, tolerance, and the realization of a harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
